Announcing Ironclad's Series C, Led by Y Combinator Continuity

I’m proud to share today that Y Combinator Continuity has led our $50 million Series C round.  Ali Rowghani, CEO of Y Combinator Continuity and former CFO of Pixar and COO of Twitter, will be joining our board. Jake Saper of Emergence, along with our existing investors Accel and Sequoia Capital, also participated, bringing our total funding to $84 million. Y Combinator is unmatched at selecting leaders in emerging industries, and we’re honored they’ve chosen to partner with Ironclad on this next stage of global growth. We will be working together to transform one of the oldest, most important, but most stagnant business technologies in history—the contract. ...

Getting in the Contracting Driver’s Seat With Workflow Designer & Ironclad CTO Cai GoGwilt

Contracts technology has traditionally focused solely on the problem of management to the exclusion of process innovation. Legacy contract management solutions tack on workflows as an afterthought, never a recipe for program success. Unfortunately, workflow solutions that have tried to fill the gap are so cumbersome to implement that they can fail to inspire user adoption. As Ironclad's Chief Customer Officer, user happiness is top-of-mind for me. That’s why I’m so excited about Ironclad’s Workflow Designer. It’s the only contracting solution that lets legal teams and business users design, deploy and make changes to contracting processes on their own, in a matter of minutes. Offering unprecedented self-serve control, this new-found autonomy lets them:...

The Lawyer in the Machine

Law and technology have not always been comfortable bedfellows. But as the rate of technology adoption in the industry accelerates, the need for lawyers to embrace technology has become acute. Yet simply plumping for shiny, off-the-shelf tech is not necessarily the panacea, nor advised for a profession notoriously slow to adopt innovation of any kind.  “Think process first, tools second,” rang one of the key takeaways from an executive panel titled The Lawyer in the Machine convened at the recent Financial Times and RSG Innovative Lawyers Summit in London. Representing hardware services, legal, media, and software development industries, the session spotlighted how a new breed of legal professionals are leading the charge in digitising the legal profession, lessons being learned along the way, and the challenges a legacy profession faces to “going tech.”...

How Digital Contracting Is Putting Legal on the Fast Track

I always flinched when I heard, “Pass the new vendor contract through Legal.” Until recently, I looked at Legal as the proverbial “black box.” Important stuff goes in, tumbles and cycles around—why I don’t know—then comes out wrinkled with redlines, ready to re-forward as a Word document back to my vendor for further offline review, more redlines, and maybe, just maybe, a few signatures somewhere down the line. Legal, rinse, repeat. ...

5 Software Engineering Concepts Changing the Way Lawyers Work

Intro The legal profession has remained largely unchanged for hundreds of years. Sure, lawyers use emails and Word documents today, but legal processes are still heavy on manual review and unstructured back-and-forth between counterparts. In that sense, legal processes like contract review operate in much the same way as they did in the days of quill and ink....

Take 5 with Antonio Perez, Legal Engineer

Interested in life at Ironclad? Get to know our Cladiators through our weekly employee spotlight, Take 5. Tell us about yourself. I attended Colgate University where I studied history and received my J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis. I was a corporate associate at two firms, specializing in secured transactions, but ended up narrowing my practice further to do just aviation finance. After I "left" the law, I worked in Melbourne, Australia on a team that prepared cases for litigation....

Take 5 with Stacey Wang, Product Marketing

Interested in life at Ironclad? Get to know our Cladiators through our weekly employee spotlight, Take 5. Tell us about yourself. I tell people I'm from Ohio but I'm really a vagrant. I've lived in eight states and my favorite is California. I studied at Duke and Harvard Law and thought I wanted to be a litigator, but left the lawyer track for Palantir when I realized I wanted to do more creative, generative work. I was the first marketing hire at Ironclad and have helped build the team and craft the Ironclad narrative. I view my career as really an exploration of all the ways I can challenge myself to grow, whether that's learning a new skill or way to work with people....
